the perfect starter plant

the perfect starter plant

You want to start with a houseplant but you aren't sure where to begin. You might bring this plant to work or put it in your living room. You don't really know how bright or dark the room will be. You want something that says "I'm a plant keeper. I got this." Something with foliage, volume, and maybe even, dare I say, flowers? Enter the peace lily. They boost humidity, reduce mold spores, and eliminate airborne allergens.

Peace lilies are the perfect starter plant and hardy as hell. The trick is low to medium light (not in front of a window) and water when the soil is dry about once a week. Peace lilies kind of like to be forgotten. They are "wall flowers." If you forget to water them completely, they will let you know. Their leaves will droop and gently "indicate" that they are thirsty. If this happens, generously water and wait to water again when the soil is dry within an inch depth. They aren't divas and they won't fuss. Typically found in your grocery store or hardware store, peace lilies aren't hard to find either.
